Google Shopping multipack vs is_bundle: How to Choose the Right Attribute

Learn the difference between Google Shopping multipack and is_bundle. See when to use a count of identical products and when an offer combines different products.

What multipack means in Google Shopping

Use `multipack` when the offer contains several identical units of the same product packaged and sold together. A six-pack of the same drink or a box of twelve identical pens is a multipack. The attribute value is a positive integer that tells Google how many units are included.

The submitted price should represent the complete offer. Product title, image, and landing page should make the pack quantity clear so a shopper understands what one click buys. Do not report the price of a single unit when the customer must purchase the whole multipack.

What is_bundle means

Use `is_bundle` when a merchant-defined offer combines different products into one package and the set contains a main product. A camera sold with a compatible case and memory card can be a bundle. The buyer purchases the combined set as one offer.

This attribute is not a synonym for multipack. Ten identical bottles are a multipack, not a bundle of different products. A main item with complementary accessories may qualify as a bundle even if the products are not individually identical.

Choose the right attribute

Ask whether the offer repeats the same product or combines different products. If every unit is the same, set `multipack` to the number of units. If the offer contains a main product plus different additional products, use `is_bundle` with the supported true value for your feed format.

For example, three identical notebooks sold together are a multipack of three. A notebook packaged with a pen and a ruler is a bundle. If the store simply displays a recommended accessory next to a product but sells it separately, neither attribute describes the original offer.

Common feed mistakes

Do not set both attributes just because a pack contains several things. Do not count component pieces as a multipack when they are different products. Do not use `is_bundle` for a manufacturer-created standard package unless the attribute definition and target market make it a merchant bundle.

Keep the value consistent between feed, title, image, price, and product page. Ensure the landing page clearly shows every included item and pack quantity. Misleading or incomplete bundle descriptions can create product-data and customer-trust problems.

Final validation

Review the Google product data specification for the source format you use. In text feeds, `multipack` is an integer; XML and API formats have their own field syntax. After mapping the attribute, inspect the processed product in Merchant Center to confirm the intended value was accepted.

Choosing between multipack and bundle correctly helps Google understand the offer and helps shoppers compare what they receive for the displayed price.
