Why promotional titles are risky

A product title should identify the item, not behave like an advertisement.

Merchant Center titles are structured product data. Promotional phrases, excessive capitalization, decorative symbols and shipping claims make it harder to identify the actual product and can conflict with Google Shopping editorial requirements.

Removing a few words once is not enough if an ERP template, WooCommerce import or PrestaShop module adds them again. The durable fix is to clean the title generation rule at source and use a consistent attribute order across the catalogue.

Feedlinter currently preserves incoming title text rather than rewriting it automatically. Use this workflow to correct titles safely, then run the feed audit to verify that the updated XML remains complete and readable.

  1. Inventory

Define the phrases that do not belong

List promotional terms, shipping claims, decorative symbols and capitalization patterns introduced by your catalogue workflow.

    Examples: SALE, HIT, FREE SHIPPING
  2. Rewrite

    Use attributes customers search for

Build titles from brand, product type, model, colour, size or another meaningful differentiator instead of temporary promotion copy.

    Stable, descriptive title pattern
  3. Validate

    Audit the regenerated XML feed

Confirm every product still has a title and the source feed parses correctly before Merchant Center fetches it again.

    Source changes verified

Better product data means fewer disapprovals, steadier campaigns and more room to scale.

Frequently asked questions

The details, without the fine-print fog.

Everything you need to know before running your first product feed audit.

Still have a question? Talk to us

Is ALL CAPS allowed in Google Shopping titles?

Avoid excessive capitalization. Use normal capitalization unless uppercase letters are genuinely part of a brand, model or standardized product name.

Should I include FREE SHIPPING in the title?

No. Shipping information belongs in the appropriate Merchant Center shipping configuration or feed attributes, not in the product title.

Does Feedlinter automatically rewrite promotional titles?

Not currently. Feedlinter preserves title text. Correct the title template or source data, then use the audit to validate the regenerated feed.
